The people wants an effective, clean, transparent government]

leave a comment »

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak points out that the people of today hopes not for just blind development but instead a government which is able to govern effectively, transparently and cleanly that can be regarded as good governance.

The Prime Minister mentions that the expectations and the attitude of the people towards the leaders and the government has changed. He also states that the benchmark of a a leader nowadays is much higher as the people of today are more educated and can obtain more information as compared to times of old where information is not easily obtainable. “Today, anything kept under covers will in the end be revealed in broad daylight and thus will be known by others. Hence we as leaders must be aware and must change ourselves… adapt.”

Praise be to God that if we adapt, I am confident that the people will still want Barisan Nasional to lead our country, however, they would want a BN that has changed to suit the situations of today,” according to him during a speech officiating the 34th annual general meeting of the Charities and Labour Welfare of the Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (BAKTI) in the BAKTI Siti Hasmah Building here today.

Najib mentions that whatever occurred back in 2008 (2008 General Election) is a structural change that the citizens of Malaysia is no longer the same as before.

He says, the current generation wishes a change and the BN government can bring that change henceforth the country does not need a reformation as championed by certain parties, instead requiring a transformation such as the one currently being brought forward by the government.

If you have purchased a grey market iPad 2 in the past two weeks, you would probably now be simmering with rage as in a matter of 2 weeks, prices has dropped more than 2000 yuan. Following the global retail launch of Apple’s iPad 2 in over 25 countries, Chongguan’s grey market is certainly in a more dire pinch.

On the 14th of March, the initial batch of grey market iPad 2 arrived in Chongguan via air. The lowest end model of the time, the WiFi 16GB’s lowest price was 6700 yuan, but dropped to only 5500 yuan a week later. Following the iPad 2′s global retail launch, the lowest price yesterday is a mere 4800 yuan. “We haven’t any choice, the previous stock hasn’t been sold, thus we could only sell it with a loss.” indicates a businessman in Chongguan. These day it is as if each day brings a new price tag, fortunately the stock was not large. Another businessman quoted a 4950 yuan price tag, regarding this spate of price drop, he has expressed isthat the cost of the stock lower this time, hence even though the price has greatly plunged, there is still profit to be made albeit at a reducing return.

On Chongguan’s online website, reporters discovered that the WiFi 16GB iPad 2 quoted price was 5200 two days ago, but dropped to 4960 yuan yesterday. In reality, the current incoming stock are American versions. However, a number of businesses have indicated that after the iPad 2 begins retailing in Hong Kong, the grey market price may decrease.

Article from Le Monde

According to American daily The New York Times, the president of the US barack Obama informed his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao about the possibility of redeploying American forces in Asia to counter all possible attacks from North Korea if Peking does not apply pressure on Pyongyang.

The American warning, “First expressed during a telephone call with Mr Hu the month before and repeated during a private dinner on Tuesday at the White House, to persuade China to adopt a harder line towards North Korea”, written in the Thursday newspaper, cites an unidentified senior American official.

South Korea accepted on Thursday the North Korean proposal to begin “high level”military talks to ease tensions, but warns yet again that the North must admit responsibility regarding two serious incidents occuring in 2010. In March, 46 South Korean marines perished in a torpedoing of the Cheonan light armed warship, leading to an international investigation on Pyongyang (who denied), and at the end of November the North bombarded the South Korean Island of Yeonpyeong, resulting in four deaths.

DEEP CONCERNS

During the visit to Washington, president Hu expressed concern for the first time, as does the United States regarding “new North Korean uranium enrichment production. However there is no immediate sign that Beijing has a plan to punich the North for this act of defiance”, adds the New York Times. The American president’s pressure “strengthened by a member of the government the secretary of defence Robert Gates, to push China to adopt a line closer to that of the United States in the management of North Korea”, maintains the newspaper yet again.

“Without China’s help, the main support of the North Korean government, Mr Obama told Mr Hu that the United states will be forced to take long term measures, such as to redeploy its fources, to adapt its defensive policy to strengthen  their military operations in Northeast Asia”, declares the same American senior official to the New York Times.

contraints – forced to
politique – policies
manœuvres – army drill, operations
haut responsable américain – senior US official

Questioned in Air Force One carrying Mr Obama on Friday in the States to New York to visit a factory, his spokesperson Robert Gibbs did not confirm the contents of the New York Times article, but indicated instead that the United states tried conveying to China their deep concern regarding Pyongyang’s actions.

The Rationale of the Blog

with one comment

Posted a pioneer post yesterday translating Japanese into English. Ironic that the first translation project I’m undertaking is about facebook when I have just disabled my facebook account. It seems that one can either have facebook or blog. Why blog when you have facebook? You can just post stupid status message snippets which robs you of any ability to build-up any creative thoughts.

Anyhow, my intention is to choose a random article of a language that I have kind of learnt before and attempt to translate it into English. It sounded easy enough, but it actually took me 5 hours to translate that stupid facebook article as Japanese has got a totally wicked sentence structure compared to English. That makes it extremely difficult to translate into English properly and I have done quite a botched job with the translation even after 5 hours.

Ideally I would like to translate an article a day. But if it takes 5 hours a day obviously that will not be possible as I have other things to do, i.e. study or should I say “study”. I’ll just see how the project goes. If I can’t translate an article I’ll aim to do at least a paragraph a day or something just to keep the momentum going.

This is my first blog post in months and I’ve decided to switch over to wordpress as my old blog was getting abit too heavy with nearly 900 posts. Other things I aim to do this short 5-more-day holiday is to learn web programming due to popular demand for my services by my loyal customers who pay me nuts.

Then student CEO Mark Zuckerberg from Harvard started the site up in (the university’s) internal network in February 2004. Therafter, after undergoing rapid growth, in 2010, its revenue was announced to be roughly $2 billion (about JPY 160 billion). (asahi.com editorial.)

The secret to its popularity lies in the unconventional internet wisdom of using a person’s ‘real name’ rather than a pseudonym. Friends and colleagues can be looked up using their names and chosen from the list with the click of the ‘add as friend’ button; the other party can then communicate after accepting the request. Similar to other social networking services, it is possible to chat, share journals, photos and report recent events with friends, colleagues and family alike.
